These are from my second trip to New Zealand. Sarah and I spent a day wandering around Auckland’s waterfront. I remember we had some amazing ice cream at Island Gelato in the Ferry Building.
Over the years, I have steadily come to look upon my Lomography Belair X 6-12 Jetsetter camera with growing disappointment. My disenchantment with the Belair rests upon two chief complaints: The plastic lenses are terrible. They are quite soft, especially along the edges, and the photos are often out of focus—rarely in a good way. […]
I shot these tractors 5 years ago at the Coyote Flats Pioneer Village. They easily have over 100 tractors and I think I spent most of my time with just these three, ha ha.
These photos were shot on the overnight train to Xi’an. This lovely family, with whom we shared our compartment, spent part of the day putting together a puzzle on their bottom bunk.
These photos are from Il Giardino Italiano, my favourite part of Hastings Park. The garden features many beautiful fountains and the ‘Opera Walk’ is a hidden gem. I hope to visit the park again the next time I’m back in Vancouver.
These photos are of the Vimy Memorial, Canada’s monument to the 60,000 Canadian soldiers who gave their lives in France and to all those who served in World War I. The memorial sits on Vimy Ridge which Canadian soldiers captured at great cost. The scale of the memorial is amazing. Two towers of white limestone, […]
These photos are of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. The titanium-clad Guggenheim Museum was designed by Canadian-American Architect Frank Gehry and it is probably his most famous work. The Guggenheim houses a large collection of modern and contemporary art including a few pieces that are on display outside the museum building. Visible in the […]
I shot these in Yangshuo, China while doing some river rafting. This was a very touristy thing to do as I’m sure you can tell from the photos. But it was a lot of fun! There were hundreds of boats on the river. Most of them were of the bamboo raft variety. They each seat […]
I picked up this mysterious film, Mr. Zhu 100, on eBay. It’s so mysterious that the seller himself didn’t even know much about it, including its name. So, in the absence of a name, he chose to name it after his Hong Kong shipping partner, Mr. Zhu. Intrigued by a new rare film, especially one […]
I shot these photos on Kodak HCP 5369, which I picked up from Labeauratoire. It was a bright sunny day and so I shot most of these at the recommended ISO 20, while a few were shot at ISO 16. The bright sunshine meant that I was able to shoot every photo at f/11 for […]
This is the Jericho Sailing Centre on Jericho Beach in Vancouver. Many years ago, I had an awesome summer job working here with a summer school program for children with disabilites. It was two weeks of sailing, kayaking, rowing, and just hanging out at the beach! The students were great fun and they loved every […]
I shot these pinhole panoramas on JCH Street Pan 400 using a homemade pinhole lens I mounted on my Belair Jetsetter for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2020.
Today is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day! While I celebrate by shooting some pinhole photos later today, I thought I would share some of the photos I took on last year’s Pinhole Photography Day. Around the time last year when I was experimenting with shooting Instax Mini film in my Mamiya C220, I was also building […]
This is the view looking north across Burrard Inlet from Prospect Point at Stanley Park in Vancouver. The first two photos feature the Lions Gate Bridge which was built in the 1930’s by the Guiness family (the same family responsible for the eponymous Irish stout), while the last photo is of Ambleside Beach in West […]
A few years ago, when I first heard that Bellamy Hunt of Japan Camera Hunter would be launching a new film, I had to place an advance order. I shot this the day I finally received my ten rolls of brand new JCH Street Pan.
I shot these from the balcony of my hotel on my first visit to Auckland. As I was enjoying the view one morning, I started to notice all the interesting things happening below me and had to snap a few photos.
Here are a few more photos from the family farm. New Zealand farms are often very hilly making them best for dairy farming or raising sheep. This one even has an apple orchard.
