These are Casablanca Lilies and they are a varietal of the oriental lily. A few months ago I decided that I wanted to try my hand at photographing flowers. I bought a bouquet of lilies at the supermarket, grabbed a vase and some decorative black rocks, and arranged them all together. Then I sat back […]
I took this self-portrait as part of my Self-Portrait Challenge a few years ago. The idea behind the challenge was to take a series of creative self-portraits that would push my creativity and skills as a photographer. It isn’t easy to be both photographer and subject when you are using a manual focus camera. Unfortunately, […]
I shot these tractors 5 years ago at the Coyote Flats Pioneer Village. They easily have over 100 tractors and I think I spent most of my time with just these three, ha ha.
From time to time, I will take self-portraits. Often it’s because I have no idea of what to photograph. I’m easily bored of photographing the same subjects and locations over and over again. There are only so many times that I can visit the same places and vary the point of view or use a […]
Today is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day! While I celebrate by shooting some pinhole photos later today, I thought I would share some of the photos I took on last year’s Pinhole Photography Day. Around the time last year when I was experimenting with shooting Instax Mini film in my Mamiya C220, I was also building […]
I’ve become a little obsessed with Instax Mini film lately. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently working on a project using Instax Mini and so it’s been on my mind a lot. So much, in fact, that I awoke one morning with the idea that I wanted to shoot Instax Mini […]
These are a few of my smaller cameras. I shot these a few years ago when I first got my Mamiya C220 TLR and a small studio light box. I was quite disappointed with the way these turned out and I’ve never bought another roll of Fuji Pro 400H film.
My wife gave me a Lab-Box for Christmas this year and I’ve started developing my own film. These were developed using Rodinal (or Blazinal as it is branded here in Canada).
I managed to get my hands on a roll of Shanghai GP3 100 B&W film and shot these in studio with Sarah. My Mamiya C220 is a fully manual TLR that doesn’t have a hotshoe. Instead it has a PC socket with a M-sync / X-sync switch. Using a cable, I can connect the Mamiya […]
I shot these back in Autumn, 2016 at the International Balloon Festival in High River, Alberta. Hot air balloons only fly at dawn, so I had to drive out to High River early that morning to catch the action. There were very few spectators and I was able to set up my tripod in a […]
Back in December, I participated in my first model shoot. I’ve never photographed models before so it was a bit of a learning curve. I wasn’t really sure of how to give the models direction or even what I wanted. I felt rather silly so I mostly hung back and watched what the other photographers […]
This is a shot of the Fish Creek Library that I took using a Mamiya C220 TLR (twin-lens reflex). I love my Mamiya TLR! It is a big, beautiful, all-mechanical, medium format TLR that is a lot of fun to shoot.
