Backpaddock Lakes is a private lake / event venue in Hawkes Bay, NZ. My brother-in-law held his wedding here. However, these photos are from the day after the wedding. (The wedding itself was held in a converted barn and can be seen in the background of photo #2401.)
These photos are all from a walk I took in 2015 through Bernières-sur-Mer, a small town in Normandy, France that was liberated by Canadians on D-Day, June 6, 1944. This first photo is of a German defensive position, aka a “Tobruk”. It was designed to target invading soldiers by firing down the length of the […]
These are from a photo walk in Havelock North, New Zealand. This photo of a pink building was an absolute nightmare to scan. Getting the colours right was next to impossible. This was one of the images that tipped the scales for me and led me to purchase Negative Lab Pro. I love how someone […]
This wasn’t what I was expecting when I shot Dubblefilm Apollo 200. Then again, I don’t know what I was expecting. This is the thing about shooting experimental, pre-flashed films. Even if the manufacturing process yielded a consistent result (which it doesn’t), there are still too many variables from lighting conditions to scanning to give […]
I photographed this truck and tractor at the Calgary Corn Maze & Farm. It was a beautiful bright day and we had the place to ourselves. I was shooting Flic Film Elektra 100 film that day. Elektra 100 is respooled Kodak Aerocolor IV film which was designed as an aerial film. I really like the […]
I shot these flower photos around the garden of my wife’s parents’ home. I quite liked their garden, but alas, they have recently sold their house and moved. I think I will miss that garden.
When I was last in New Zealand, I attended the Central Hawke’s Bay A&P Show. A&P stands for “agricultural and pastoral”. An A&P show is a country fair and celebrates farming and the agricultural industry. This photo is one of only two I managed to shoot during the sheep shearing competition. The lighting in the […]
Back in June, I bought an Olympus XA2 for a very good price. When it arrived, it looked to be in mint condition. I loaded a roll of film and started shooting. Soon after, I noticed that something was off. The shutter speed didn’t sound right to me. The more I shot, the more the […]
It was great fun to wander around and photograph the inside of the Bayeux Cathedral. The most intriguing thing I discovered inside was that someone had glued Scrabble tiles onto the back wall of the cathedral (see last photo). Written in French, was the message “Le Futur Commence”, which in English translates to “The Future […]
I’ve decided that I quite like the way Dubblefilm Bubblegum 200 renders color. As the Dubblefilm website says, it’s “tinted with sweet tones” from a “pinkish vibe” to “deep magenta in the shadows”. It’s the subtlety of the tones that I appreciate. I don’t want a large color shift, just a pleasing warmth.
