I came across this apartment building on one of my photo walks downtown. I shot these photos on an old, long-expired roll of 220 film, Fuji Super G Ace 400. These photos make a great use case for a polarizing filter. As I moved around the building attempting to capture all the artwork in my […]
I’ve driven past this construction site a number of times over the last few years and have always found it odd that no progress has been made. I finally gave into my curiosity and stopped to take a few photos. The construction site is fenced in, but there is a parking lot next to it […]
These are from a family outing to the Calgary Farmyard. It was a day of mixed blessings. These photos (shot with my Fuji GS645S) turned out nicely, but I discovered that my newly acquired Olympus XA2 was broken.
The theme for this self-portrait is what you wore today. This is the least creative of the photos I took during my Self-Portrait Challenge, but it wasn’t the worst. In fact, I rather like these photos. Looking back, I managed to get the focus and lighting right, but I should have covered up the white […]
In January, Sarah & I had a light lunch at De La Terre Winery. It’s a small rustic winery in Hawke’s Bay, NZ. After lunch, I wandered around and snapped a few photos of the sculptures scattered all around the estate.
This is my first roll through the Zeiss Ikon Signal Nettar 518/16 and I’m impressed! Until I bought this camera, I didn’t think folding cameras were anything special, but I was wrong. The Signal Nettar features a sharp lens, is easy to use, and was a lot of fun to shoot. The Signal Nettar is […]
I photographed these large flower displays in the shape of animals at the Calgary Zoo last year. There’s a crow sitting atop the giraffe’s head in the last photo.
These photos are from a walk through the wetlands at Pearce Estate Park and were shot on Kodak Vision3 200T (5213). As much as I love Kodak’s Vision3 films, I hate dealing with remjet. It can be a pain to remove it and ensure that it is all gone. To the naked eye, it may […]
This photo of Stoney Trail passing over the western end of Bowness Park was shot on Kodak Vision3 250D (5207) hand-rolled by Whatevergraphy from 65mm stock. Since 65mm motion picture film has sprockets and is wider than 120 roll film, trimming the film down to fit 120 does not remove the sprockets. I chose to […]
I learned a few things about photographing flowers when I created my Casablanca Lily photos, and I used that knowledge when making these photos of sunflowers. First, I maximized my depth of field on close-ups by setting the aperture to f/10 and smaller. This helped to keep all parts of the flower in focus. Second, […]
I made this self-portrait as part of a Self-Portrait Challenge I undertook one summer. I am drawn to self-portraiture because of the technical and creative challenges of creating an image when you have to be both photographer and subject. It’s a great way to learn about photography. The theme of this photo was exercise. Once […]
I’ve decided that I quite like the way Dubblefilm Bubblegum 200 renders color. As the Dubblefilm website says, it’s “tinted with sweet tones” from a “pinkish vibe” to “deep magenta in the shadows”. It’s the subtlety of the tones that I appreciate. I don’t want a large color shift, just a pleasing warmth.
