These are from a day trip to San Sebastián in Spain. When I travel I often take a number of cameras with me and plenty of film. On this trip, however, I only shot two rolls of film (compared to the nearly 40 rolls I shot in France). In my defense, I met my wife […]
In 2015, I went to France on a World War I & II history tour. We visited many of the Canadian, British and American battelfields in Normandy. These photos were taken at Pointe du Hoc, which is the highlest point of land between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east. On […]
I had high hopes for this film. I shot these photos in and around Bow Valley Ranch (in Fish Creek Park) a few years back when I was searching for the perfect slide film to cross-process. Unfortunately, Rollei Digibase CR 200 Pro didn’t live up to my expectations. Looking at these photos now, I’m not […]
The 4th Street Lilac Festival always draws a huge crowd here in Calgary. Vendors and food trucks line the streets, there’s live music, and even a parade. It would be a lot of fun, except for the crowds. So many people (and their pets) attend the summmer festival, that sometimes it reaches the tipping point […]
These lemurs were shot using Kodak Farbwelt 400. I’ve shot Kodak Farbwelt before and those photos turned out better. I’ve also photographed these lemurs on Fuji Superia 100. Those photos also turned out well. This is normal with expired film. As I’ve discussed before, the quality of expired film depends largely on how well it […]
I shoot a lot of expired film. Occasionally, I come across old film that has somehow managed to defy aging. This is usually because it was properly stored over its lifetime. Ferrania Solaris FG 100 and Perutz Primera 100 are two films I own that still look good a decade after the expiry date. And […]
I shot these on Kodak BW400CN, a chromogenic B&W film, which isn’t a true B&W film as it is designed to be processed in C-41 chemistry. I’m not a fan of this film and wasn’t sad to see Kodak discontinue its production. I shot these while wandering around Pearce Estate Park.
On one of my many trips to Union Cemetery, I shot these B&W photos of damaged and deteriorating headstones. Many of these headstones date back to the early days of Calgary’s settlement and it’s rather sad to see the loss of history. Hopefully, by capturing a few photos I can do my part to preserve […]
I shot these photos in 2015 while on a tour of Canadian World War II battlefields in France. These are from Arromanches in Normandy. Arromanches is the location of Gold Beach where the British landed on D-Day and built a Mulberry harbour out of huge concrete caissons, many of which can still be seen off […]
The Calgary Zoo is currently playing host to some pandas. They are very popular and the day I shot these photos, it was very hard to get a good shot given the size of the crowd of people around the pandas. It’s really no different in China. When Sarah and I were in Chengdu this […]
While visiting the Calgary Zoo one day, I photographed this amusing little demonstration on how to train a tiger by giving it food when it touches its nose to the stick. At first, the girl had no clue what the trainer was asking of her, but she did eventually get it.
Sarah & I spent a day wandering Park Güell in Barcelona. Antoni Gaudí’s architecture is simply amazing. Sadly, I didn’t capture much on film as I was mostly shooting with my DSLR that day.
I shot these in Vancouver’s Il Giardino Italiano (the Italian Garden) at Hasting’s Park. It’s a beautiful garden to wander through with plenty of flowers and amazing fountains. The Opera Walk is especially beautiful.
Heritage Park is one of those places where there is lots to see and photograph. Over the years, I have managed to shoot many rolls of film there. I believe this is the first roll of Velvia 100 that I ever cross-processed and, once I saw the results, I instantly fell in love with the […]
These are from a canoe trip on Widgeon Creek that I took with my friend Barry. I’ve done this trip before and will probably do it again one day. It’s always fun.
