These photos were shot in Arromanches, a town in Normandy, France. The number 6 on the building refers to June 6, 1944 — D-Day. Arromanches, or Gold Beach as it was known in World War II, was one of the two Normandy beaches where the British landed. The last photo in this post features one of the concrete caissons that made up the Mulberry harbour that the Allies built to off-load the materiel they would need to win the war.
