These are from the Opera Walk in the Italian Garden (Il Giardino Italiano) at Hastings Park in Vancouver. Hastings Park is one of my favourite parks because I grew up close by and have many great memories of visiting the park.
I shot these photos of the Sons of Fenrir and their camp during the 2014 Calgary Comic Expo on AgfaPhoto Vista Plus 400 film. The Sons of Fenrir are reenactors who portray 9th century Viking / Norse culture. I spoke to them for awhile and they were some of the most articulate and gracious people […]
These were shot in Courseulles-sur-Mer, Normandy, France last summer on my battlefields tour sponsored by the Juno Beach Centre Museum. Courseulles-sur-Mer is beautiful and I took a lot of photos while I was there. The last shot is of the statue entitled Remembrance and Renewal as seen reflected in the glass of the Juno Beach […]
These were shot at the Calgary Zoo using Labeauratoire [kromiəm] 500 slide film that I then had cross-processed at The Darkroom. As you can see, the color shifted towards yellow. I don’t really like it cross-processed, so when I shot a roll at Christmas, I had it developed as E-6. It turned out much better, […]
Back in December, I participated in my first model shoot. I’ve never photographed models before so it was a bit of a learning curve. I wasn’t really sure of how to give the models direction or even what I wanted. I felt rather silly so I mostly hung back and watched what the other photographers […]
These were all shot at Heritage Park using my Canon Rebel 2000 and Ferrania Solaris FG Plus 100 film. I got my Rebel 2000 two years ago for only $35 on eBay. Since then, I’ve shot 99 rolls of film with it. That’s half my film total. I love this SLR because it’s light, easy […]
I shot these in July 2014 at Tower Beach in Vancouver. Tower Beach takes its name from the two World War II era searchlight towers that still stand on the beach silently guarding the entrance to Burrard Inlet. The photos below are of Tower #2 aka CASL #9 (Coast Artillery Search Light) which sits further […]
I have really come to love shooting with Adox Color Implosion 100 film. I always shoot it at box speed and I just love the color tones and grain. It gives a really nice vintage look. And I’m really impressed by the consistency of this film too. I know exactly what I’m going to get […]
These were all shot with my Canon Canonet QL17 Giii. I love this little camera and had a great time capturing these images in Honfleur, France. I spent only an evening here during my trip to Normandy, but it was awesome. I met a lot of friendly people, drank some amazing Calvados brandy, and generally […]
I took these photos of one of the Bristol Hercules engines owned by the Bomber Command Museum of Canada. This engine works and would have originally been mounted on a Handley Page ‘Halifax’ bomber. You can see it below being serviced by a member of the museum’s Halifax team who are working towards the goal […]
These were shot at Juno Beach in Courseulles-sur-Mer, Normandy, France last summer using Adox Color Implosion film. Juno Beach is the codename for the beach that the Canadians stormed on D-Day and it is also home to the Juno Beach Centre, a museum dedicated to those Canadians that fought and lost their lives in WWII. […]
I shot these over Christmas as it snowed using Kodak Tri-X 400 film. I love this film! It has a wide exposure latitude and good contrast and I always get great results.
These were shot during my trip to Normandy, France in August. They are from the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Omaha Beach. Omaha Beach saw some of the bloodiest fighting on D-Day and the battle and cemetery are both featured in the movie Saving Private Ryan. These were shot using FPP RetroChrome 160 film […]
These are the first few photos from my Diana Mini. I got my Diana Mini for free from Lomography for spending $100 on film (so it wasn’t really free). I quite like this little camera and am pleased with the results. Nearly every photo I took with this camera over Christmas was in focus and […]
Whenever I’m back home on the coast, I try to sneak in a hike or two while visiting family. These were taken during a hike through Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. I like to hike a few of the lesser used trails (fewer tourists) and my favourite leads to Starboat Cove. I snapped these with […]
The shot of the canoes is one of my favourite photos. I love the light and dark of it. These were shot on Fomapan Action 400 film which along with Kodak’s Tri-X are my favourite B&W films.
