‘Make & Shoot’ Pinhole

I shot this pinhole photo with the Loonar Goupe Hole-OnEx, a ‘make & shoot’ pinhole camera kit. It wasn’t exactly the easiest pinhole camera to make and the first roll I ran through it came out completely blank — too many light leaks. So I made some modifications, loaded a 10-exposure roll, and shot indoors. […]
The Holga Week That Wasn’t

I shot these back in October during Holga Week. I had been planning to submit them, but wasn’t too thrilled with the way they turned out.
Lost Shoes

While out for a walk one day, I came across this pair of shoes pinned well above my head on a telephone pole. I guess someone must have lost their shoes.
First Impressions of the Diana Instant Square

I backed the Diana Instant Square on Kickstarter and while I love the look and feel of the camera, I was quite disappointed with it. It vignettes more than it should. I know that vignetting is to be expected with toy cameras, but when it ends up cropping the lower third of the frame, then […]
Shooting Kodak Elite Chrome 100

This is cross-processed Kodak Elite Chrome 100 and I love how just by varying the exposure, the film gave me a very different colour palette. I wish I had recorded the exposure of each frame on the morning I shot these photos, but alas I wasn’t that smart. I’ve posted other photos from this roll, […]
Myra Canyon #2

Here are some more photos from my cycling trip through Myra Canyon on the Kettle Valley Railway. These were shot with my Ultra Wide & Slim. It’s interesting to compare photos #2106 and #2108 (below) with photos #838 and #839 respectively. They were taken from the same vantage point, but with different cameras. Photos #838 […]
Grassi Lakes #3

I shot these photos on a hike at Grassi Lakes. My fellow hikers that day could not understand why I was shooting film, lol.
Walking in Newmarket

I snapped this photo of an elderly couple walking in Newmarket (a suburb of Auckland) on FPP B&W 100 film, which is really just rebranded Orwo UN54.
The Bund

The Bund is the name for Shanghai’s historical waterfront and features many great views of Shanghai’s skyline.
Auckland

These photos of Auckland were taken in 2018 as Sarah and I walked through downtown and along the waterfront. The big green owl (Ruru Kakotea) is from The Big Hoot, a fundraiser for the Child Cancer Foundation. That year, many painted owls could be found all around Auckland.
Surreal Yangshuo

I shot these photos early one morning as Sarah and I wandered around Yangshuo looking to buy our morning coffee. Yangshuo is a beautiful little town in China that looks like it was decorated for children. It is very odd, almost surreal, and yet very charming in its own way. I was just excited to […]
Film on Film #9

Here are four rolls of expired film I have shot with and one roll that I have yet to shoot. First up is Ferrania Solaris FG Plus 200. I love Solaris film and have almost always had very good results with it. Sadly, I’m all out of the 200 ISO. I was very excited by […]
A Walk Through a Beijing Hutong #2

Here are some more photos of my walk through an old hutong in Beijing. #2067 below is my failed attempt at a mirror selfie. The man in the photo got in the way, and if I waited around for him to leave, I was worried that he might think I was trying to photograph him […]
A Walk Through a Beijing Hutong

A hutong is a narrow street or lane between rows of traditional courtyard residences and is commonly found in Beijing. Sarah and I walked through an old hutong near the Bell Tower (pictured above) and these are some of the photos I took. I used Lomography Potsdam Kino 100 for these photos and I have […]
Experimentation

I like to experiment. Some experiments happen on a whim (“I wonder what would happen if I…”) and some experiments are methodically planned and executed. Given my busy schedule, the latter can sometimes take a few years. These photos represent two experiments: one a whim and the other planned. The First Experiment (the Whim) The […]
My Top 3 Film Cameras of 2022

Taking inspiration from Keith Devereux, I decided to crash the party too. A group of film photography bloggers have all shared a post about the three cameras they used most in 2022. And so, here is my take on that theme. The three cameras mentioned below took centre stage for me and held all my […]
Ollie

This is Ollie. He is my father-in-law’s dog and he followed me around the house as I snapped some photos. I’ve posted photos of Ollie and his good friend Milly before. Milly has since passed away. Ollie misses her.
Yangshuo at Night #2

I’ve posted a lot about the amazing night markets in Xi’an and Yangshuo, so this time I’m just going to say that the Olympus Trip 35 is a great camera to use for brightly lit night photography. I shot these photos on Kodak Portra 400. This is arguably my favourite colour film.
Flamingos #2

I photographed these Chilean flamingos at the Calgary Zoo. One flamingo spent an awfully long time with his head in the barrel. Maybe he was camera shy?
