Sarah has been learning to play guitar. A few years ago (when this photo was taken), she rented a guitar for a few months while she saved up to buy her own. She has since purchased a really nice Taylor GS Mini.
I received a camera for Christmas this year. My wife gave me the Kodak Six-20 Model C. Made in 1933, it’s a 6×9 folding camera that takes 620 film. 620 film is the same size as 120 film except that the spools holding the film are smaller. This means that you cannot fit 120 film […]
Here are more photos I shot along the Bow River and Memorial Drive while out walking with Sarah, albeit on a different day. That being said, they were taken with the same camera: my mom’s old Kodak Ektralite 500.
Over the years, I’ve shot a lot of photos at Union Cemetery. Most of the old headstones were made from sandstone and they have not stood the test of time. Sandstone is a very soft sedimentary stone and it is a poor match for Calgary’s climate. These photos were taken with LomoChrome Purple film and […]
With the exception of the very last photo, these were all taken during Holga Week. The first three photos are the ones I submitted to the contest. I used the same homemade mask I described in a previous post (Shooting Instax Mini Film with a Holga) to load my Holga with Instax. Studio strobes were […]
After successfully shooting Instax Mini film in my Mamiya C220 TLR, I attempted to shoot it in my Holga. My first attempt failed miserably. I don’t own the incredibly rare Instax Mini Back designed for the Holga (I found one on eBay once, but they wanted $200 for it), so I had to find a […]
I had high hopes for this film. I shot these photos in and around Bow Valley Ranch (in Fish Creek Park) a few years back when I was searching for the perfect slide film to cross-process. Unfortunately, Rollei Digibase CR 200 Pro didn’t live up to my expectations. Looking at these photos now, I’m not […]
I’ve become a little obsessed with Instax Mini film lately. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently working on a project using Instax Mini and so it’s been on my mind a lot. So much, in fact, that I awoke one morning with the idea that I wanted to shoot Instax Mini […]
The 4th Street Lilac Festival always draws a huge crowd here in Calgary. Vendors and food trucks line the streets, there’s live music, and even a parade. It would be a lot of fun, except for the crowds. So many people (and their pets) attend the summmer festival, that sometimes it reaches the tipping point […]
These are from a day I spent at Spruce Meadows photographing show jumping. I was quite thrilled by the way these photos turned out, especially #1167 above. It took me a few rolls before I figured out exactly how to get the best out of my Canon EOS 3 that day. I wanted to capture […]
This is a photo from Central Memorial Park here in Calgary. I shot this shortly before it was announced that manufacturing of the Holga camera had ceased production. Of course, that decision didn’t last long and the Holga is still being made to this day. I like my Holga and should probably shoot with it […]
These lemurs were shot using Kodak Farbwelt 400. I’ve shot Kodak Farbwelt before and those photos turned out better. I’ve also photographed these lemurs on Fuji Superia 100. Those photos also turned out well. This is normal with expired film. As I’ve discussed before, the quality of expired film depends largely on how well it […]
I shoot a lot of expired film. Occasionally, I come across old film that has somehow managed to defy aging. This is usually because it was properly stored over its lifetime. Ferrania Solaris FG 100 and Perutz Primera 100 are two films I own that still look good a decade after the expiry date. And […]
I shot these in Fish Creek Park using discontinued and expired Solaris FG 100 film by Ferrania. I adjusted the ISO to 50 to compensate for the age of the film and I was really excited how the photos turned out. I wish I had more of this film.
I own a Diana F+ camera with ‘all the fixins’. I bought the deluxe kit one year and also picked up the Instant Back. The result is that it’s a lot of fun to use all the Diana’s lenses while shooting Instax Mini. I shot this at a friend’s place on Fuji Instax Mini (Star […]
I shot these on Kodak BW400CN, a chromogenic B&W film, which isn’t a true B&W film as it is designed to be processed in C-41 chemistry. I’m not a fan of this film and wasn’t sad to see Kodak discontinue its production. I shot these while wandering around Pearce Estate Park.
These photos are of a horse named Kolor Kode that I shot during a show jumping competition at Spruce Meadows one year while attending a photography Meetup. I shot these using expired Fuji Super HG II 100 film that I picked up on eBay.
One winter, I hiked through Fish Creek Park and snapped these photos with my Superheadz Blackbird, Fly TLR. The first photo (#1103) is of the Willans Family barn which was demolished a few years ago. The old log barn was built around 1910 by Norman Willans using white spruce trees that line the banks of […]
