Toy Cars

On days when the weather keeps me inside, I look for things to photograph around the house. I spent one weekend trying to capture some of my childhood toys on Instax Square film. I tried to create a sense of movement with the background in these photos. I think it works better in the second […]
Arromanches

These photos were shot in Arromanches, a town in Normandy, France. The number 6 on the building refers to June 6, 1944 — D-Day. Arromanches, or Gold Beach as it was known in World War II, was one of the two Normandy beaches where the British landed. The last photo in this post features one […]
Caen

I only spent one night in Caen and had very little time to explore the city and take photographs. Caen is fairly modern as 70% of the city was destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II.
Église Saint-Jacques

These photos are from the Église Saint-Jacques in Dieppe, France. The construction of this church began sometime in the 12th century. You can supposedly trace the history of gothic architecture over four centuries as this church wasn’t finished until the 16th century. As you can see in the photos, the Église Saint-Jacques is in need […]
Wandering Around Blenheim, NZ

Sarah and I wandered around Blenheim one Sunday afternoon. It was very quiet with almost no one around when I shot these photos.
Car Wreck

A few years ago, I took a road trip along the Cowboy Trail with some other photographers. This car wreck on the side of the road was one of the many things we encountered and photographed that day.
Film on Film #10

This is Kodak ProFoto XL 100 and, unless the name change is cosmetic, it is not the same as Kodak’s ProFoto 100 film (which is thought to be the same as Kodak Pro Image 100). Unfortunately, while I can find the data sheets for ProFoto and Pro Image (which are identical to each other), it […]
‘Make & Shoot’ Pinhole

I shot this pinhole photo with the Loonar Goupe Hole-OnEx, a ‘make & shoot’ pinhole camera kit. It wasn’t exactly the easiest pinhole camera to make and the first roll I ran through it came out completely blank — too many light leaks. So I made some modifications, loaded a 10-exposure roll, and shot indoors. […]
The Holga Week That Wasn’t

I shot these back in October during Holga Week. I had been planning to submit them, but wasn’t too thrilled with the way they turned out.
Lost Shoes

While out for a walk one day, I came across this pair of shoes pinned well above my head on a telephone pole. I guess someone must have lost their shoes.
First Impressions of the Diana Instant Square

I backed the Diana Instant Square on Kickstarter and while I love the look and feel of the camera, I was quite disappointed with it. It vignettes more than it should. I know that vignetting is to be expected with toy cameras, but when it ends up cropping the lower third of the frame, then […]
Shooting Kodak Elite Chrome 100

This is cross-processed Kodak Elite Chrome 100 and I love how just by varying the exposure, the film gave me a very different colour palette. I wish I had recorded the exposure of each frame on the morning I shot these photos, but alas I wasn’t that smart. I’ve posted other photos from this roll, […]
Myra Canyon #2

Here are some more photos from my cycling trip through Myra Canyon on the Kettle Valley Railway. These were shot with my Ultra Wide & Slim. It’s interesting to compare photos #2106 and #2108 (below) with photos #838 and #839 respectively. They were taken from the same vantage point, but with different cameras. Photos #838 […]
Grassi Lakes #3

I shot these photos on a hike at Grassi Lakes. My fellow hikers that day could not understand why I was shooting film, lol.
Walking in Newmarket

I snapped this photo of an elderly couple walking in Newmarket (a suburb of Auckland) on FPP B&W 100 film, which is really just rebranded Orwo UN54.
The Bund

The Bund is the name for Shanghai’s historical waterfront and features many great views of Shanghai’s skyline.
Auckland

These photos of Auckland were taken in 2018 as Sarah and I walked through downtown and along the waterfront. The big green owl (Ruru Kakotea) is from The Big Hoot, a fundraiser for the Child Cancer Foundation. That year, many painted owls could be found all around Auckland.
